Like film, animation is extremely engaging. As people, we are instinctively captivated by movement - a behavior that's probably lying somewhere deep down in our primal selves. It's been said that animation is not the art of drawings that move but the art of movements that are drawn. You really can do anything when you animate – you have boundless possibility if you want it. But as with film, that in itself is only part of the challenge. Animation also needs to get the story told. And told well.
